As long as they get their work done and done well, then what does it matter? Streaming a TV show is significantly less distracting than being in an office with 30 different, loud conversations happening right next to you.
I know it’s obvious but I’ll say it. They want to own employees. Same reason they sit on nests of gold. Power play.
Hell, people streamed in the office on a second monitor while working BEFORE covid. Not to mention the TVs and music on in common spaces. What’s new here?
We literally had a PlayStation and Xbox in one of our “creative only” meeting rooms
ah yes, because Mark Read cares so much about "data." That's why he presented this survey along with other super robust results (nothing says 'peer-reviewed' like a survey of <3,000 adults by Fox TV) to prove that RTO was causationally related to higher revenue....wait. he didn't.

But if we stop, will we be held responsible for killing streaming? 🤔

You want me to keep downtown businesses alive, but also the entertainment industry? Can’t do both, pick one.
I do this in the office with podcasts when I have headphones in. I would do it with TV if I wasn’t worries about something raunchy or violent triggering a visit from HR. And if you’re suggesting this “data” is why RTO is being mandated, it’s amusing that all the other data is ignored because it suggests financial and productivity boosts with remote and hybrid working models.
The real reason companies are mandating RTO is micromanagers, certain tax breaks based on location, a passive aggressive way to cut staff, and midwits who use revenue per sq ft as a metric for a non-retail industry.

I mean, who cares? Besides the formerly anti-authority slacker Gen-Xers who get triggered whenever they feel like Gen Z might be getting a break, I mean?

Gen Z and Boomers are the ones who want RTO. They have no kids or aging parents. Most millennials and Gen X want WFH because they need the flexibility and don’t give a shit about your ping pong table or free pizza.
Respectfully, get a life
I’m not gen z and I still watch tv while I’m eating lunch at home. If you get your work done, what’s the big deal?
I can't tell you how many offices I've worked in where people would stand around chit chatting for hours and taking numerous smoke breaks. The point is that if someone is unproductive in the office, they'll be unproductive at home.

Every time i see articles like this it sounds (fairly or unfairly) like boomers were the least productive generation in history.
You can’t have a show on in the background and get your work done at the same time?
I stream while in the office
