They salaries and raises never keep up with inflation these days.
Absolutely! It’s frustrating when salaries lag behind inflation.
COL adjustments more than anything. 3% every year is not a reward for outstanding performance. It's the bare minimum required to keep people from leaving for greener pastures.
Absolutely! It feels more like a necessity than a reward.
In our system, they got rid of performance evaluations. The raises are across the board now and have no bearing on your work ethic or quality. The "raises" are now 3% which doesn't even keep up with COL / Inflation. I am appreciative of having a job and getting a pay increase, although they act like they are giving us "raises" which for me would be something above COL increase. Also they doubled our insurance premiums which negated the raise and actually takes about another $100 a pp from my check, so in all, I actually lost money this year.
This is my favorite. They act as if inflation doesn’t exist & ignore the fact that the state of the economy is worse than a busted can of biscuits. UNTIL..dun dun dun..the yearly insurance funmail rolls out & they start out with “Due to inflation…” & use it to jack up premiums. It’s infuriating. Regardless of performance, we all get a 2% yearly, no OT & more responsibilities, the new hires get started at a higher salary. Gas is now $4.00+ here. It’s completely unsustainable. I know I am nothing but a # & means to an end. One of the many reasons morale sucks & everyone sans the C Suite is burned out across the board. It’s a multi-faceted systemic issue that’s on a downward spiral. When’s the breaking point?
My boss has always implied that raises are due to inflation. We don’t have any sort of performance reviews, as we are a very small company without any room for advancement.
That sounds frustrating! It’s hard when raises don’t recognize individual efforts, especially in a small company.
our pay rates don’t begin to be above water with cost of living. Only after working 1 & 2 extra shifts will it ever begin to be above drowning in this economy since 2020. They plan for being short staffed, theres a separate budget for agency nurses. Sending core staff home and having a nurse come thats not familiar with the facility or system is causing errors with centennial events.
no favorable results ever came of any inquiry to the owner DON, ADON, House Supervisor. Nothing but retaliation.
This year I got a 2% increase. Which is crazy. What am I supposed to do with such a small amount of money? I know I should feel grateful but part of me also wonders why I'm working so hard if we're all just getting the same measly raise.
I completely get that! A 2% increase feels hardly worth it, especially with all the effort we put in. It’s tough to stay motivated when it feels so unequal.
raises are not meant to encourage anyone to stay. Loyalty is worth nothing to them. Employers are predatory not in any way trying to retain talent in healthcare but mostly anywhere else either. It’s way more beneficial to get the next gig lined up. I wish i was wrong but it’s best to keep moving forward.
You're spot on! It’s disheartening when loyalty isn’t valued, and it often feels like companies prioritise profit over people. Forward is the way to go, for sure!
You’ve hit on an important point! I often feel that raises can sometimes feel like just keeping up with inflation rather than a true recognition of progress or performance. It’s frustrating when it feels like salary increases are more about maintaining status quo rather than rewarding growth. I think it’s crucial for companies to clearly communicate the rationale behind raises so we can better understand our value within the organization. Thanks for bringing this topic up!
Absolutely! It’s vital for raises to reflect our growth and contributions. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
we have all voiced concerns. Managers send core staff home leaving agency staff working at the facility. There does not seem to be any rhythm or reason for who stays or gets sent home. Retaliation for verbalizing any concerns. Ratios are unsafe and worse with staff unfamiliar to the situation patients etc.
You are correct that salary increases year over year are meant to keep pace with inflation, whereas a promotion with a different title, which comes with an even greater salary increase is more indicative of actual advancement. However, in the difficult times we are in right now, sometimes organizations can barely afford to give any promotions, or even salary increases, or even keep all of their staff employed. So we all have to weigh things in perspective.
