@OP: Get over yourself. They probably did have an epi pen. Doesn't mean they want someone to use it to stop a seizure.
You sound like a douchebag. "[P]art of having an allergy" is taking necessary precautions so that aren't triggered so that they don't "make everyone else" deal with their allergic reaction.
My son had a severe peanut allergy. We fly JetBlue because they are the best in terms of accommodating. They allow you to board early to wipe down the seats and will notify the people around you. They also never serve peanuts so you don't have to worry about that. They have nut free chocolate chip cookies too for the kids.
You are a dick OP. Go have a seizure, stick a EpiPen and then talk.
D8. Thanks for standing up for Deloitte. This does not represent all of us, but rather one of us. Not proud to be associated with OP here
Glad to see someone who has the true holiday spirit. Get over yourself
Happy for once to see the asshole soundly rejected. OP, in case you need some data about how big of an asshole you're being, maybe count on your favorite hand the number of upvotes you've gotten here and then compare that number to the 100+ telling you you're an asshole. Maybe think about why that is?
OP getting roasted out here
Must be nuts...
Playing the scenario out...let's say they have an allergic reaction. Then you will most likely be at best delayed while emergency crews come to deal with the person, assuming you've actually made it to your destination. Most likely you'll have to divert in the air, get emergency workers onboard, and then continue flying to your destination, assuming the crew has enough hours to keep flying. So really the key question from an economic standpoint is "what is the potential to realize each of these potential outcomes". Given this person is (1) aware they have an allergy and (2) concerned enough to notify f/as, I would think the potential is pretty good. So you can be annoyed at them but really it seems they did you a favor
What's your point? EY1
I'll call EY1s bluff, BS on that "scientific evidence" provide your source or go back to the Jurassic period where you belong
That does not mean that if you give your child peanuts at a young age your child won't develop an allergy. I ate lots of peanuts while pregnant and nursing and he had nuts once he could eat them and my son developed a severe allergy. Now they think developing an allergen has more to do with certain microbes in your stomach. Research is promising but it's still just studies that not every child qualifies for. I can tell you if there was an easy cure every parent would do whatever was needed for their child.
EY1 and OP have a little humility when you haven't dealt with this yourself. There's no one answer and until there is, be considerate of others. It's a small sacrifice. Plus karma is a bitch.
Thanks EY1, my misunderstanding, I thought you were implying that peanut allergies were somehow "fake", but from your sources you're saying they could be avoided by decisions in early development. Too late for those with allergies already, but a good start to limit future allergies. Thanks for clarifying, after re-reading I agree and apologize for sending you to the Jurassic era!
@d2 I never said anything about Millenials. Doth thy protest too much
This person was not handicapped. That is different
This happens on one of my flights every 6 months. Always carry a granola bar,
Not reading any comments above. This is why I carry peanuts at all times, though. If they have an issue as I eat them, they can man (or woman) up and cope. I will not change my behavior for weak people who can't adequately equip themselves to function in society.
And yes, I eat nuts on every flight. And yes, I fly at least twice a week. And no, I have no intention of changing my legal and completely appropriate behavior.
I think this is the manager that rolled someone off from their project from earlier
Also as noted above, folks with more serious forms of allergies can have reactions from particles in the air which is exacerbated on an airplane
D12 - The world we live in today... I know, right? Somehow people didn't have peanut allergies back in the good old days. Hard to picture a stewardess (as they were called then) on a Pan Am Clipper announcing a peanut ban.
