On my 3rd job in 2 years (consultant for a year, then left for a new company that was impacted by COVID). My new work is not very interesting and can be very pigeon holed at times. Do what you feel is right for your career. As long as you can tell a story about why you left, don’t worry how it might look to an outsider. Just be sure the company you are jumping too is reputable and marketable enough.

I’m close to joining my 3rd firm in 2 years also. My story arc is I’ve progressed through the typical consulting path now (engineer > architect > practice lead > sales) so I’ve been on both sides of sales and delivery now but I’ve reflected that I truly enjoy and it’s being a practice leader since I want to continue growing my leadership skills and become a mentor to teams to grow an a strong, efficient practice. Something to that effect.

Not work related but idk where to ask this. We’ve been invited to our first post Covid cookout. It’s at my husband’s former colleagues place so we don’t the hosts too well but we know there are not going to be any kids so mostly a grown up football party. What would bring to it? Because of the current scenario I’m skeptical of bringing my home cooked dip.

Back again with a question for the McKinsey folks! 1. Is it true that if you are internal (specifically PD) you are not eligible for a performance bonus? Just base and the 401K profit sharing? 2. I know McKinsey offers a percentage of your salary into a retirement fund. The recruiter painted it as a range (from 7-12%), but other fish in the main consulting bowl said it’s either 7 OR 12% (no in between) based off of if you’re client facing or internal - which is true? First time leaving firms - not sure what to do with my 401k. Should I keep it as it is, transfer to an IRA, or a Roth IRA. If it is the latter, I know Roth IRA has a 6k limit but my 401k has ~17k. Will it exceed the limit and if so, what should I do? 22 here, not too familiar with the process. Thanks!

What’s your next move, if any? I had three interviews at the end of August (obtained outside of their normal recruiting process) with an AmLaw 100 firm for an associate job. The managing partner was up front with me that they are trying to gauge needs and that they need a month or two for something else to shake out. This was not a clear blowoff, in context. How/when do I show continued interest/remind them I exist politely/avoid hurting my odds? Assume I’m not delusional.

Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.

Am I an attractive candidate at all? Or is it silly to think I could jump soon for a comp increase? 1 yoe BAH fed (7 yoe in nonprofit sector before that), currently at 90k. Resume is mostly attractive bc of extensive international/cross-cultural experience & DoS experience. Am I still too “meh” with only 1yoe & no tech skills?
