It’s fun during the establishment from pre-IPO where you need to do a lot of influencing, testing strategy, process of improvement, etc. You feel accomplish when you finally remediate the deficiencies especially getting out of MW.

after few years, you might get bored once the processes are more stable and mature with no significant changes.

It’s the best position within the realm of an accounting professional’s world. Not as dry and you get more of a sense of effecting positive change in the organization.

You get to be a business partner so much more than an auditor, and almost end up as an internal consultant after a while.

You also get to learn the skills of other departments and focus on risks outside financial, so you sort of end up with an MBA-style knowledge because you can focus on operational risk instead of purely financial (e.g., company reputation, litigation, efficiency, cybersecurity, etc). I got to work alongside other teams and help tighten up controls and processes around mergers, marketing campaigns, investor relations, HR issues, engineering, benefits plans, legal discovery, e-commerce, and more

Just did a couple of audits not necessarily geared towards financial reporting and was able to identify major cost saving/controls to help increase revenue opportunities. Felt like i added value. Not always at the larger companies but usually at the smaller ones (<250 mil revenue).

This one is going to make some of y’all mad, but it’s so annoyingly unnecessary. The most irritating part is “is it a shirt day or a skirt day”…. Like women don’t wear shirts with skirts and men don’t wear shirts with pants. Shirts and skirts are not mutually exclusive. I’ll just leave this here.
