Phones at school. I know how distracting phones are at school. Our district has not fully gone into a phone free classroom policy, per se.

I completely understand putting phones away for distractions, but we should be prioritizing banning the boom boom sticks and getting better mental health care. I also think those who disagree need to reevaluate why you're so protective of objects designed to kill multiple people and get some therapy.
I agree!
Luckily I don't see too many phones out in the elementary school where I work, but I know a lot of kids have a basic phone in their backpack in case of emergencies. I imagine this debate can get pretty heated in middle/high school settings. If it were me I would push for no phones out in class, but put away in backpack like the younger kids. They are just too distracting. Since the advent of smart phones our kids' test scores and behavior have gone really down hill.
I wondered what the pros and cons were with having access to phones during a school wide emergency. I thought having access was a pro, in the aforementioned article, research h shows the opposite. This is only one article but it’s interesting.

Super interesting. I can kind of understand why, I somehow think that having a bunch of phones available would make the emergency feel more terrifying, especially as kids are trying to contact their families in the middle of it. I have advocated for a long time that kids should be able to bring phones TO school but that they should be kept from them throughout the day until school is over. That way, they can coordinate rides at the end of the day and not be completely out of communication with their parents. What would be the pros and cons of taht?
