Try to do two islands if you can. Don’t just stay on Bora Bora. But if you can’t the st Regis is definitely worth it!
For honeymoon definitely worth it. You will earn the points back but hopefully only have one honeymoon. I went all out for honeymoon and 10 year anniversary so far. Also it’s great to set the context of when you are gone traveling all the awesome things we can do when we are together!
FYI if you redeem 600k points then you can get 100k airline miles if you book through the bonvoy promotion - just in case you didn’t know that already
KPMG1 - I was very bored at work one day and dove into the bowels of Marriott bc it’s a site my director couldn’t get mad at me for looking at
Is the StR bora bora that great? The recent reviews I’ve read have made it look less then stellar.
I've read that the IHG/Hilton properties nearby are much newer and provide better service as well
I would say yes, worth it. But caveats. You’ll be booking with points into lowest room class. That’s not an overwater bungalow, and if you’re flying to Bora Bora, why stay in a room on land? That aside, it’s an amazing resort, and if you have status, you might get preferable treatment including an upgrade. If you’re ambassador, call yours, and mention that it’s a honeymoon. You’ll likely be taken care of.
Overall though, for my honeymoon I would def book. But take a look at Intercontinental properties there especially in Moorea and Tahiti. I think they are very underrated. Could also be a complement to your stay at St Regis.
Is St Regis worthwhile over Le Méridien? Planning 5 nights Bora Bora, 4 nights Moorea for my own honeymoon!
This is great; thank you!
FWIW I went to Fiji on a personal trip and hated it.
Went to fiji a few months after coup attempt back in 99 or 2000. Flew from Sydney, 2 hour van ride to middle of nowhere next to local village. All inclusive, do nothing, most beautiful beaches for us and about 15 other huts. About $600 total for wife and I.
I’m going to play devils advocate and say it *might* not be worth it...only because some nice, but cheaper options may exist if you don’t plan to spend much time in the hotel. Also look into which options have the best location. I love the St Regis though! Just like to always consider options. Congrats on your marriage!
Bali / Indonesia has some really cheap options that I would look into first
It’s is definitely showing it’s age, not the best resort on the island (prob not top 5). Went a few years ago and service wasn’t what you would expect from a 5* resort.
It has to be top 5!! I would say the only one nicer is the four seasons (source: went twice in the past 3 years)
Thnx all. Ambassador Elite + Honeymoon should help to get an upgrade indeed. Will look into multiple islands (Moorea/ Tahiti). Might skip St Regis given the mixed feedback - Could use the points for other stays during the multi-month world trip
Not worth it, depending on what you and your SO want. It is a great way to flex on your non-consultant friends and family, but 600k points is enough for 25 nights at JW Marriott and other above average properties. My SO and I prefer free nice hotels across a few places (Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai) instead.
I stayed at the Hilton Moorea and StR Bora Bora for my tenth anniversary. Moorea has more Tahitian employees whereas Bora Bora primarily has expats from Europe working the resort. You can snorkel right off your bungalow in Moorea and the water is only four feet deep with a fair amount of fish to look at. You can’t really do the same from your bungalow at StR but they have an awesome lagoon to snorkel instead. It was nice experiencing both but we’d only consider going back to Bora Bora as the natural beauty is unreal. Highly recommend the ATV excursion in Moorea as well in addition to the obligatory snorkeling with sharks/sting rays.
St regis bora bora is definitely worth it, but I agree with EY1 you should consider other islands as well. Check out Moorea or even spend a day in Tahiti
OP, I’m going to Maldives for my honeymoon. The only thing you have to be careful for is the rate for the speedboat to get to your hotel. Mine is $550 per person. $1100 extra + the points. Something I didn’t account for
Pay cash if you can, keep the points for something else. 4 seasons Bora Bora is way nicer than St Regis, and Hilton resort on Moore’s is super nice as well (and not totally outlandish)
