Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Document EVERYTHING. Sounds like the boss is creating a hostile work environment. Document concerns to HR.
Thank you!! I’m sharing all these helpful comments with her
Sounds like a terrible boss. Talk to HR and then start looking for a new job.
Is there proof of the history of exceptional ratings? If so, I would ask for some clarification on the most recent occurrence, try to get it in email form if possible. If not, a recap email is always appropriate.
That’s terrible for them to do that. She needs to either start looking for a new job or start building a side hustle for now so when the time comes she’s financially stable for a little bit. If she needs any help looking I can see if anyone is hiring. Shoot me a message if anything. Happy to help!
Thank you all for the helpful comments. As soon as she received the rating from her boss, she immediately worked with a resume coach and updated her resume. She has been looking and applying for jobs since, but no luck yet. She is thinking of just quitting. I think this has really shocked her and it’s taken a complete toll on her mentally. She’s unable to focus at this point. Her family and friends have been encouraging her to continue to stay and look for something else if possible. She just got promoted to Sr. Manager last year. It’s quite shocking that this is happening to her.

I was in that spot going from high producer to can’t tie my shoes. Had I know now back then, I should have filed EEOC and probably a lawsuit.
I would strongly suggest in addition to what has been stated :
1) talk with an employment lawyer
2) keep a log of everything
3) sign up with a counselor/mental health professional (better health, talkspace)
4) keep yourself healthy - exercise, healthy eating and talking with the doctor if something isn’t right (depression and anxiety can really do you in).
What helped the most was creating a doomsday list. It has three columns: 1) something happens 2) how to solve it 3) who can solve it.
Example: if I slipped on a banana peel, I would go to the hospital and the monkey pays the hospital fees.
If I get fired with no unemployment, then I will go to target or Starbucks and get a job to cover my basics.
It helps with giving your brain a solution. And it usually helps the anxiety.
