Run the hotel charge through your Corp Amex. Expense that in a similar manner as you staying in your client city over the weekend. Before you do any of this, get written approval from your manager/director.
But do I book through concur? Wondering how to book the charge initially, then expensing it as a hotel. I'd have 2 hotels in the same week? The problem with written approval is my director uses a google sheet. Asks for price to go home vs price to stay, never actually sends email approval
You have to pay tax. You are receiving a benefit above and beyond standard compensation. Sorry.
When you complete your expense report, you can use the ILOT- Lodging explanation, whether it's a charge on your business or personal card. And I think you can just add a hotel to your trip on concur (you'll have to change the dates, it defaults to fit within your flights)
PwC3, I'd normally say yes, but a lot of my team fly to west coast or others, and they don't pay taxes on it. I'm just wondering if I can do the same for hotles
OP, don't risk it. They can easily audit that you didn't pay taxes on in lieu of stuff and there's consequences for that including termination.
Thanks pwc1 maybe I'll just do it and put it as taxable, is it taxed at my income tax rate? That'd be substantial for the weekend. ~$200
The in lieu of expenses are added to your paycheck and that paycheck total amount is taxed based on your rate. So your overall after tax amount will be slightly lower than usual. This is because in lieu is a monetary benefit that pwc provides its employees.
Pwc1 thank that that confirms what I had thought. If that's the case my plan is to stay at the client location Sunday-Friday and then travel somewhere Friday -Sunday so I only pay taxes on two nights. Thank yoy
