Wait!! You don't have to position yet! If you do it now and the position falls through, you will be out of a job!! I smell corporate espionage even on here!! I am honestly here to help, I am an Evangelist!!

Never ever talk or resign until the offer is finalized with background checks and conflicts complete.
If I tell him now, and for some reason the new offer falls through, I’d be left without a place. Because if I stay at my current firm and the whole team is gone… I can’t do much. I started to look for new jobs because of my boss’s situation. But I also didn’t expect I would land with something so soon and almost at the same time around my boss’s transition.
I was in a similar situation once. Not to scare you, but I ended up having a conflict and it was a huge debacle that took literal months to resolve. I told my boss because I trusted him (and because it was unavoidable after some point). In my case, he supported my decision and I think the plan would have been to go with him if things didn’t work out. Since you started looking for jobs because of your boss’ situation, hopefully he wouldn’t be upset that you found something on your own first. At the very least, he must have contemplated this possibility.
Can you share if you’re lit? What is the likelihood of this happening (generally speaking)?
The only job you have is the one you currently have. I wouldn’t tell anyone anything in either direction. New transition firm may not want the whole team or pivot once the partner is there. New offer may not pan out due to conflicts, background check, or some other change. Sit tight.
