I just got an offer from EY in London but considering based on what the maternity policy is which doesn’t seem to be spelt out in contract or benefits pdf. Does anyone know a) if there’s a minimum employment period to qualify and b) what the enhanced maternity pay is. I’ve read both 16 weeks and 18 weeks.

We have a nanny, and pay her 20/hour so 800 a week. We give her federal holidays and 2 weeks off (one of her choice, one that we’re away). I did some research before we hired her, and it seems to be the going rate in Brooklyn. It is SO expensive, but my husband and I both have intense jobs and I felt like we didn’t have a choice. A good daycare is almost the same. You could look into a nanny share, which is a little cheaper with the added benefit of your little one having a friend.

The thing that ppl overlook with the nanny (vs daycare) is that if it’s at your place, you don’t have to do the morning schlep. That is everything. And you can get a little help with home chores associated with the baby. I would think right now it’s extra valuable to avoid the daycare as well. Childcare is just expensive. We are finally done needing regular care and it feels great.
I don’t know if they still update this, but Park Slope Parents used to do an annual “nanny compensation survey” that I thought was a helpful benchmark. They also had a good contract template to clarify vacation time, job responsibilities, etc. Good luck!
Here’s the link to their site - looks like the latest update is 2019 but lots of other info here too - https://www.parkslopeparents.com/Advice-Childcare-and-Education/Nanny-101/
There’s an awesome nanny coop based in Sunset Park called Beyond Care. We found our nanny through them when we lived in Brooklyn and she was incredible. At that time we paid 15.75/hour for 40 hours and time and a half for overtime. We now have a nanny in Westchester who we pay $20/hr for our two kids, plus federal holidays off, 2 week’s vacation paid, random days off that we get as agency employees, and four sick days/year. It’s stupidly expensive but you figure you only have birth-12 to teach them everything you want them to learn so it’s worth it to invest in someone you trust to love and teach your kid(s).
We are starting a nanny share soon. It will be 2 infants in Brooklyn and found a great nanny for $26 an hour ($13 each family). We’re offering 2 weeks vacation (1 that we’re away and 1 of her choosing) and a monthly metro card. From our research this seems to be the going rate for a share. Park slope parents has great resources including sample contracts. We found our nanny from their website too.
I know folks who are paying 15 dollars an hour and even less. And they pay for their food and metro card. Just keep searching and stick to your guns.
Full time
We pay $1200 a week for 55hrs, so almost $22/hr.
All federal holidays paid.
2 weeks paid vaca, 1 of her choosing.
But we pay always when we go away and so that'll realistically be 5-7 weeks paid vaca a year.
A weeks paid sick leave (she hasn't used in a year).
We pay her train ticket ($110/month).
NYC
Yes it's expensive but the convenience is essential for 2 demanding jobs (and 2 kids)
In 2017, we paid $16/hr which was $850/week for one kid. We paid for her monthly metrocard and gave 2 weeks vacation (one of her choice one of ours), federal holidays and the weeks between Christmas and New Years, all paid. We also paid her for sick time (which she never used) and those random PTO days we took. If she worked past the agreed time (like if we went out to dinner or had to work late) she got overtime and a car home. We adored her and were really said to move away, but still keep in touch. We lived in Manhattan if that helps. Best of luck with your search!
We had a nanny share which was great - $11/hr each ($22 in total per hour for 2 babies) and 2 weeks paid vacation. We decided not to pay for the metro card
