I think most of us are in the US and benefits could vary greatly. However, as of 7/1 of this year, all US employees are eligible for 16 weeks of 100% paid parental leave for birth, adoption or fostering/guardianship. There is no longer a 1 year waiting period for those benefits.
I don't have details in front of me but think it's broadly if you get pregnant when employed you qualify but worded very differently
Doubtful there would be a minimum employment period as maternity leave rights are strongly protected in the UK compared to the US. You also get significantly more paid parental leave and it can be shared by both parents. Most women in the UK take around 9 months off. You are legally entitled to a full year at statutory pay but most companies pay full pay for a chunk of the time e.g. 6 weeks and then it goes down to half pay usually.
