Question to the bankers on here. I currently have 3 years of experience at a T2 consulting firm (think Oliver Wyman, LEK, EY Parthenon, Strategy&) in the commercial due diligence team and 2 years of experience in a corporate development team (all pre-MBA) which is in the top 5 largest companies in my industry and is very active (don’t want to get specific because my identity will become obvious). Is it possible to lateral into Investment Banking without an MBA at the associate level?

Additional question: should I reach out the IB individuals that I’ve worked with in the past 2 years to lateral or could that get me fired at my current job (I’m worried that they might tell my bosses)

like

Yes it is possible but probably to a MM banking role. I have not seen someone enter pre-MBA as associate to BB without direct banking experience, but that does mean it has never happened.

Jumping off a related topic: am I delusional to not care about jr/int/sr level titles? I've been a "copywriter" since the day I started and steadily gained responsibility, autonomy, and money. Happy with career progression, always getting juicier assignments, work directly with ECDs/CCOs... am I missing something crucial? Is my case an anomaly? Or is it okay not to push for a title upgrade?

Hey FishBowl Friends, so I’m currently trying to break into tech sales/FinTech and I feel that due to my previous work history, I might not look like the ideal candidate on paper but I’m an extremely fast learner and very coachable. I’ve been a manger at a gym, got my degree in finance, worked as a client advisor at a top 3 auto dealer in the nation and now I’m a project manager at a solar company. I really want something that’s remote and steady, any recommendations on how to spruce myself up?

I don’t know who needs to hear this (mostly As, Cs, SCs, and some Ms) but here goes.

You are important to the project, but never so important that you cannot leave the project or firm for better opportunities. Being in hero mode is good where you save the day, everyday - but in fact that is neither advisable for your progression nor a recommended practice for the firm. If you have been performing and have had decent social skills, you will not have burnt a bridge when you leave.

At a M7 (or top 10), whatever floats your boat. Have successfully finished my qualifiers. I know my goal is industry and I’m starting dissertation proposal stuff now (will take around 1.5-2 years to complete), should I opt for a Master’s and start working now? Should I get the PhD? Let’s look at this from a strictly career perspective. My goal is to come back to consulting.

hi all, currently have two offers:

1: EY - FDD, home city, very good $$ for FDD

2: PwC - post-merger integration, DDV team (essentially M&A Consulting) - bigger city, always been keen to move

Coming as a Senior in Audit, with recent FDD exposure (2 deals, obviously not much). I was looking for something more than just number crunching, wanting a mix of quant / quali / strategic work. M&A Advisory or a Corp Strategy role is where I'm looking to end up long term.

Thanks in advance!
