Quick opinion poll: Which state or U.S. city law enforcement treats minorities the most fairly?

They all treat minorities fairly. The work by Roland Fryer and others have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that law enforcement is not targeting black people and other minorities (Roland Fryer is a black Harvard Social Scientist). And, some minorities, such as Asians, are actually less likely per capita to be accosted or killed by police than whites, because all it really takes is to commit less crime and resist arrest at lower rates.

Please stop perpetuating the myth about police brutality against blacks and other minorities. It's a dangerous lie.

Certain minorities are more likely to get 'targeted ' because they commit crime at higher rates, not because of racism. Explain why Asians are less likely to be 'targeted' by police than whites. If a certain group of people (such as young people) are more likely to commit crime, they're going to encounter police more likely, and therefore get killed by police at higher rates than for example, old people. Nobody accuses LE of institutional ageism, despite the fact that almost all people killed by police are young. This is because people know why that is. However, many people don't extend that same logic to ethnic groups.

I would be tempted to say Vermont -- only because minorities make up only about 10 percent of the population. Then again, maybe Hawaii, where whites make up only 20 percent of the population. But then, that means whites are the minority race. Demographics are so confusing.

This is a great question, but I'm honestly at a loss as to how one would even ascertain this.

It’s definitely Alaska.

Going out on a limb, but I would say ALL of them!! Perhaps some are better than others, but I think they ALL need training on racial profiling etc.

Depends on what you mean by 'minority'? Ethnicity, color, gender, economic status, political party, etc? Every city has bad cops. Every city regardless of size. Cops are human, and they behave as bad as the criminals in large cities.

Additional Posts in Diversity & Inclusion

General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? I've observed so many corporate versions become an advertising strategy (SM posts, diversity reports) without doing the actual work (increasing representation in senior leadership, salary analyses, having an effective reporting system for bias). Is this just how it is?

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

I’m interviewing for a newly created position, Assistant Director of Communications & Outreach in my organization’s DEI office. They didn’t say who specifically I would be interviewing with, but said “members of the DEI staff”, and it will be virtual.

What types of questions outside of my marketing/communications background should I expect?
