I put as little detail as possible. Usually bullets or action items. Maybe some subtasks.
For me the point is to help me reorient and not get off track. When I'm done with a task I look to the white board for what to focus on next instead of letting the evil tricker in my brain take the wheel. If priorities change I will make a conscious decision and then update the white board, to avoid going into autopilot and directing attention based on what generates the most dopamine.
For the non-work whiteboard the objective is mostly to avoid "out-of-sight, out-of-mind syndrome." It helps deter clutter, because I can use it as reminder instead of keeping everything in my flat filing system around the house, hoping to one day catch my attention when I'm trying to procrastinate even bigger things.
Makes sense - thanks!
I keep several dry erase boards, or one massive one segmented out. I have a projects board (title, scope, timeline, owner, stage, next steps), a “key players” board (vendor/contact name, email, number, service or department owned, etc), a motivational board, a free thought board (any random thing I need to work through or demonstrate), and one for job specific tasks.
I have spreadsheets, Gantt charts, jam boards, etc., on my computer and will transpose, but it is way easier and quicker for me to throw it up on a board then transfer. It also keeps the key things I need to remember out in the open so I can’t forget to follow up.
I also bought the thin 1/8” black lining tape and I put specific outlines on the boards so it is clear. In the past I also used magnet strips that I would put section titles on in case I needed to move stuff around but didn’t want to erase and forget.
I have different categories for different things. I have it broken down into four different sections nd I put things on the board based on their priority and how urgent it is that I get it done.
