People just like to complain.
Also people love to say they have worse WLB than they actually do. Like everyone at MBB thinks it’s some badge of honor to say they work over 60 hours a week. When in reality, very few people actually work that, and when they do, it’s their own fault. It’s like in college when we used to all say “man that test was so hard, I definitely bombed it”, when we know we did well. That way when we get grades back it makes us look smarter.
Don’t forget the hours we spend stressing about comp and WLB on fishbowl on the weekends too

I think there’s a difference from being told you will work xx number of hours a week and actually living it. I certainly had to live it in order to make a different decision for myself.

There’s definitely a difference between “knowing what’s expected” when you take a job with long expected hours vs the actual day to day slog of working late, night time calls, and urgent deliverables.
Eventually it wears on you and it’s reasonable to seek better WLB.
Yes I respect ppl looking for better WLB for themselves. I am still curious what we in the professional services consider what nice WLB is.

Absolutely. This is why I joined consulting after many years working in industry, in managerial position and +60 hours.....I thought consulting was worse and was so mistaken

I would love to haha hopefully in two yrs! But I know its hard to pick one to share here but what makes it difficult? is it like sudden request to get something done next day making you pull all nighter? traveling shouldnt be an issue anymore.
If I work "60 hours" based on adding up the hours between start and finish time, it's because I've taken a long lunch, coffee breaks, snuck out for 6pm beers for a couple hours, logged back in after dinner.
This. When people say the hours they work, they usually mean log on to log off. But don’t mention it includes the dinner and happy hours with the team before finishing some pages in the hotel room before bed
