Real Estate Attorneys, how did you get involved in real estate law... I would like the opportunity to be an associate in that sector and learn if I like it but every firm I see wants associates to come with experience. How did you guys get into this elusive society?

It’s a boys club for sure. Learn to “talk to talk” and you should be ok. I landed my first lateral gig because I knew the jargon, not because I was the most experienced candidate.

I feel your pain, but for corporate. I was looking for corporate and took a real estate job because they were hiring. Right place right time kind of thing. Leverage your seniority as a lateral to retool. Not sure if you’re already at a firm, but look for internal opportunities and have the discussion if you have a real estate group in the firm. I will say that if you didn’t love property law and secured transactions, you won’t like being a real estate attorney.

Just wrapped up case style interview at LinkedIn. I was rejected from moving on to the next round. The feedback I received was that I wasn’t concise enough in my answers. I have never really done a ton of case interviews before and I do not have an mba. Any suggestions on how to frame my answers in a concise way?

Need advice. I’m panicking. Missed deadline to respond to the Complain, for a matter pending in the Eastern District of CA. The deadline was Friday (1/29). Today plaintiff granted an extension to respond the Complaint. I’m filing a stip tomorrow in the am. I’m worried because the stip is clearly filed after the original deadline. This is my first time missing a deadline. Talk me off a ledge.

More importantly though, I'm looking for companies who pay relatively well (doesn't necessarily have to be market), are open to remote/hybrid work, aren't sweatshops. I'd settle for insurance work if theres good WLB & $$$ lol
