If you were male, you wouldn't be asking this question.
I'm assuming you're a female. To be honest you should probably add 20% onto what you think you're worth because you are undervaluing yourself. I can tell by your words. And I'm a male.
Yes ask. Have your rationale ready (contributions, performance, client feedback andything to support your justification). Do not make it about what the other person got. It's about you. If they say no, demand a check in in 3 months. If they say no again take your new expertise elsewhere. Oh, and ask for more than 10k. If this is a promotion 20-30% raise is fair. You are bringing in revenue for the company so make sure you speak up for yourself. Alternatively, if they wont raise ask for a bonus (20-50% of base) based on your performance. Good luck.
For those of you interested, I got my raise!! Thanks for the wise words of encouragement. Stay safe out there 🐠s
You are paid for the work you do, not how old you are. Simple enough
Look up what market rate is. Who is to say that the person before you was even getting paid as much as they were supposed to?
^too true
Absolutely you should. My guess is they will probably make you wait until they've seen how you do. At least that's the excuse they will probably use for waiting.
Experience usually equals $$, but so does talent. If, today, you're just as good as the person you're replacing, then ask for the $$. If you're not, ask for something a little less. Be reasonable but ask for more than you think they'll say yes to. Give them and yourself some room to negotiate. Have a plan for what you will do if they give you nothing.
If you dont get the raise and even jf you do definitely ask for a bonus structure. I work in new biz, it's a grind and should be rewarded
Congrats!
Would like to mention I have 4-5 years less experience than the person before me. Is it crazy to ask for that big of a raise?
You should ask. Ask for more. Make a solid business case for it. And then know what leverage you really have.
