Think through:
1. Why do you want to leave
2. What are the exits you will get from your current employer
3. What are the potential exits you will get with having G on your resume
4. Big fish in small pond or small fish in big pond, which one do you prefer?
5. Do benefits sway your decision one way or another (e.g. G has an 18 week paternity leave policy, if you’re planning for kids soonish)
6. Does this require relocation? Are you up for that, is it going to force you to make a social move?
7. What’s your career progression like (aka promotions) at your current company? Getting promoted post 5 is EXTREMELY challenging at G
8. What are the education opportunities available currently?
9. Have you done any research on the new team you will be working with, is the work good and challenging?
10. How’s your compatibility with the hiring manager?
All of these will help you make a well informed decision.
Progressing above 5 requires you to play the game (aka politics). It’s not impossible, I did it, but it takes effort. Just delivery is not sufficient. There needs to be a business need, as well as you should be well liked by upper management.
WLB is highly team/project dependent. I have incredible WLB, but the same can’t be said of everyone uniformly.
Getting Google on your résumé, can’t hurt

Definitely negotiate.
If you’re coming from a smaller tech company, the role at Google might look very different from a day-to-day perspective. Larger companies tend to have much more structured processes, which may be frustrating if you’re used to operating at your own pace. You may want to determine if that’s something you really want (assuming you find a compensation package that works for you).
That being said, Google might be significantly more stable from a long term perspective than the company you’re at now. Their stock may also appreciate much faster, which could lead to a much more lucrative outcome. Is your current company publicly traded? Or are they private?
Negotiated and the max is flat... Even so requires approvals
Mine is public as well, and has actually seen share price climb faster than Google in the past year.
The day to day POV is interesting, I have tons of flexibility at my current role. My understanding of the role at Google is definitely less flexibility and more stretched even (more consulting-like project-based, no ops)
What are your goals? What doors will the Google brand open that your current job doesn't? Is possibly easier access to those opportunities worth switching for flat pay? Going to Google isn't worth it if you can reach the next step in your career plan without Google.
You’ve answered your question then!
Congrats OP! Keep us updated on your decision
Unless your current company is precarious/lacks promotion potential, then I wouldn’t do a lateral like this.
So how much is Google offering for an L5 in terms of total comp (base, bonus, equity)?
Why don’t you let OP answer? Levels.fyi doesn’t have useful information outside of thing like software Eng, and OP is talking about an S&O role
Any suggestions on interview process or referrals?
