As mgmt you should start by cutting your own salary / bonuses ... funny how many cost cutting steps are then followed by upper mgmt getting sweet bonuses. If nothing else it opens the door / shows staff it’s not just them sacrificing.
Years ago I worked at WK Portland we had a salary freeze to avoid significant layoffs. Their first step was a partner salary cut. Did wonders to emphasize this was serious, we’re in it together and we want to keep great people - because without great people the work will suffer
Wieden gonna Wieden.
People probably would. But they probably also start looking for a new job that'll pay what they used to make.
This is a great question. Got laid off last Friday and literally had to stop myself from saying I would work for less in my meeting. The whole thing was already humiliating and I was sort of afraid I would start pleading, as I was pretty emotional. But presented with the option, I definitely would have considered it.
Same. Last Friday. I embarrassed myself but I have mouths to feed
Yes. An offer of a pay cut is better. If they don’t like it, they’ll leave anyway. If they’re OK with it, families are still fed.
Oh, Copywriter 2. Remember this post in 10 years.
Y’all need more self respect.
I have friends who’ve done it. Although they all were in smaller markets where ad jobs were harder to come by.
I wonder if agencies in NYC/SF would even bother asking when they know it’s only a matter of time that you find a gig that pays you appropriately.
No. That’s just shows bad management. We had an agreement that id work for a specific wage and if you failed to make plans for that arrangement that is on you and your finance department and I refuse to pay for your negligence.
It’s fucked up that management can be the only people at fault and never pay for any of it. Be a professional and do your job. God knows the poor kids staying till midnight are earning their keep way more than anyone at the top.
Yes. I am really happy where I am. And I’d rather everyone take a slight pay cut to keep everyone employed.
I would (because I need a job) but I’d start looking pretty quickly. I’d also want to see the agency making an effort to curb spending elsewhere...IE if I saw 10 execs going to Cannes while my salary was cut I’d be pissed.
Defeats the purpose of leveraging layoffs to sack the dead weight. And let’s be honest, that’s what they’re for.
Nope
