I’ve recently started work at a very young tech startup. Coming from a big law background, this was a huge change of pace/environment. I’m having a lot of trouble getting used to how unstructured the startup is. It feels like hire ups give a set of instructions then talk as if they don’t remember, or then decided rules A, B, C and D applies without being clear this was the case. Is this just the general startup environment? If you experienced this before, how did you deal with It?
I am manic busy but I have made my role more than an EA
That’s amazing! True inspiration of what we all should be doing any way we can.
I was laid off in April. I wish people would stop asking me if I’ve found a job yet. There are no jobs. I think the days of EA’s being needed are gone. I’m trying to think of a career shift and don’t know what else I could do.
Ouch, asking if you found a job is insensitive and/or obtuse. Jobs are difficult to come by with hiring freezes, etc. If you can, volunteer to keep busy and reach out to unemployment offices in the area (the more affluent the town, the better I think). They offer training, skill building and I think these can be managed on-line. It's easier said than done though, so be vigilant about self-care.
I would like to think eventually it will all work itself out
Hopefully we’ll be ok. They’ll need us for meetings etc, eventually
I am a virtual EA and I’m still worried they won’t need me-no travel = no expenses and only so many meetings I can schedule...and I cover 12 partners
What is their maternity leave policy?
