Salary question -- if a role is listed at $130–170K and I’d be excited at $160K, am I risking anything by saying so? Would love to know how recruiters react when people answer the salary question directly and with confidence.

If you’re within the range for the location then they will just have question if you NEED to see 160+ or if you would be ok slightly lower.
Dumb question but you’d be surprised these days.
No risk to you but as a recruiter I would want to know you would accept a lateral or only 10k above current.
I appreciate blunt honesty from what you. Red from comp. Seems the more senior the more open people are to disclose what’s needed to make the move.

Sorry re reading I see you said excited at 160. I read it as “exited” 😂 push for the higher end and see where they offer. If they offer below 160 you can always say 160 is my number if we can get there I’ll sign today.

Act like you've been there before and its just a number on a piece paper. TBH $160k is amazing if thats your first time crossing the $150k range. That should put you into solid senior to middle management roles. congrats

You’re not risking anything by being honest and confident, especially if your ask is within the posted range. Recruiters usually respect candidates who know their worth. It makes negotiations clearer and faster for everyone.

5+ years of full-time job as developer and still waiting to reverse a LinkedList at work.

Since there is a heavy impetus on solving Tree, LinkedList, and Graph problems for tech interviews, it can naturally make freshers believe that these concepts will be used in day-to-day life at work. In reality, most of these DSA concepts are already implemented in some libraries our code uses and we rarely have to code such Algorithms by hand.

When you recruiters say at the end of a 15 min call.
“I will get back to you by the end of this week” does that really mean “your not right for this position”? Because this whole thing is a waste of time.
