Seeking advice. 3 YOE with CPA and passed CFA lI. Left big4 audit after being promoted last year and joined the finance&acct division in industry (bank). The hours are worse and is way more stressful. (12+hours everyday, high turnover, knowledge gap, demanding boss). Thinking about switching to FP&A or other more interesting jobs where WLB is better while not sure if it’s a good idea now given the economy. Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

I’m a tax senior in big 4. Which role in the industry has a better career trajectory in terms of growth and pay: senior accountant or senior tax accountant? I do a lot of tax provision and starting to find tax interesting but I’m not having a lot of luck finding openings for in house tax roles.
