Depends how bad the bomb is, but... Frankly your round 1 don’t matter nearly as much, because round 1 is your ticket to round 2, and round 2 is where you get your ticket to an offer. I don’t want to be pessimistic but if you truly bombed a round 2 case, you’re unlikely to make it.
If you bomb in the final round, you’re probably not getting an offer unless the partner really liked you
If you bombed one of them, it makes a big difference whether the others were stellar or just good. You need at least one (ideally the Partner) to have been impressed enough to make an argument that overrides the poor impression from the Principal.
Looks like I should get some drinks and move on. BCG will likely not want me to slog for them. :)
I do hope the Partner liked me but it is difficult to tell. Will likely get to know on Monday!
I do final rounds and it’s not as much about case as we think you have the grit to do this job. That said, interviews are done so time to let go and wait for the call in either direction.
I was on the same boat interviewing with BCG. 1st round interviews I did awesome! Final round interview with partner I truly bombed it, then very last interview with a director I did again really well. He even said to me: “You did a great job on this interview”.
Hoping that somehow in some way I could be “forgiven” for that one not so good interview with the partner.
I didn’t get an offer. BUT having said that I sincerely hope you can get it!
Thanks folks. Curious how you define bombing a case. For me it meant not able to structure my thoughts and come up with sufficient ideas. I also had a hard time understanding the data sheet. That being said, I did arrive at the final answer but needed some guidance. How bad is it?
Sorry but that’s a killer
a principal. Partner case went well as far as I can tell. Does this mean I should prepare for a ding?
You’ll either find out in the next 2 hours or Monday so don’t sweat it. Going 3 for 4 with a “bomb” should be enough, assuming you were still structured and drove the case. As someone who crushes at least 2, I have a hard time imagining a “bomb” as a complete meltdown versus a case where you demonstrated experience and just wasn’t smooth
FYI, victor cheng regularly mentions bombing one of the cases during his McK interviews.
Have some drinks and enjoy your weekend. No need to stress about it the next two days, what will be will be! But best of luck, I hope you get an offer
