Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?

Marketing/sales role at Google for the win
Go to Salesforce or Google in my opinion. Of those companies- probably Salesforce is better because Google is more cut throat (someone always lining up to take your job means you will have pressure to over-perform and work long hours). Don’t buy into prestige of “consulting”. It’s just a services industry where you work your ass off to learn quicker than your client.
Susceptible to burnout, yes. The competition to stand out at Google is immense. There’s also something to be said about a company that installs sleep pods in their offices...

Not at all. Used to be a thing before. Not anymore. Unless your strategy role is at MBB, I will say hard pass. The Google brand on your resume is going to open all the doors in tech that you need.
Coach
Also remember most strategy consultants in MBB also do a lot of implementation work and very little product development work.
Go to google now so you don’t have to spend the next 3 years in the consulting bowl with everyone else talking about how to exit to FAANG and hearing the same debate of how the FAANG acronym is overrated and not accurate representation of big tech blah blah. Don’t worry about it being cut throat.. you’re just starting your career so give yourself the opportunity to burn bright early and if it’s too much then quit and find a less cut throat environment.
Coach
Go to Tech. You already know what you want to do, don’t waste your time with consulting.
I would go with strategy consulting if you’re interesting in doing that type of work in tech (eg google biz dev in future) and you are able to see enough of that firm’s alums in your target role at your target company. If you’re more interested in company, less on role, I’d just take the Google offer. Either way, salesforce seems least interesting to me and it’s a toss up between the other two, assuming the consulting firm isn’t a tiny boutique that doesn’t do the type of work you want
Op congrats on your offers. I’m also a senior who is having trouble with the job search. I’d love to know your application timeline and process for Salesforce and Google if you could share, while taking in other advice here.
Ps i would take Google unless the strategy role is at an mbb
Thank you! Would love to give you insight on the timeline - please feel free to chat me
