Notify your assigned leader that you want to have opportunities to work on commercial clients. Once you have the opportunity, do your best to impress. As you perform, meet with team members and project leaders letting them know your plans. If they like you have have capacity, I don’t see why they wouldn’t let you transition if they have openings. I would transition early and within your current employer. Then build your resume with commercial clients.
This so coming from someone who wishes they had done that to begin with like others I saw in my firm. Good luck.
BAH spun off their commercial business a while ago. I’d focus on honing transferable skills, like data analysis, project management, but try to make the shift to a firm that has a commercial practice sooner rather than later.
Thanks! I’m new to BAH so will need to stick it out here for a little. Any advice on specific transferable skills?
