Serious question, what do you really enjoy about your job? I'm in a bit of a rut and feeling down about my work...and I see a lot of folks complaining too, which hasn't given me a lot of hope that I'll get out of it any time soon.

I really like that with law you are constantly learning. Even if you feel like you really master your area (which takes years), the law changes, or trends shift and there’s something to catch up on. Or if you want to learn a new area you could find an interesting CLE. It’s a job that really doesn’t have to be stagnant intellectually if you don’t want it to be.

I like being in a large institution with smart lawyers being constantly exposed to new issues that pushes me to learn. You stop caring about making little mistakes in the end.

I love finding solutions to complex issues. This seems to be a quirk pattern throughout life and career: pathology, financial forensics, portfolio and asset management, regulatory affairs and policy constructs. Men. 😂

Find your place in your “gifts”. If it does not exist, create it.

Honestly love the corporate ladder and the climb. Playing the game, as some might say. It’s the game within the game and I find it very enjoyable. That said, ask me how I feel if I eventually lose and I’m sure I’ll have something different to say 😂😂

Just curious, are you a female?

Asset finance attorney in the aviation industry. Really enjoy doing top end work for quality clients in a small (headcount wise) industry.

I love the puzzle-like aspect of working out answers to complicated questions. I love that I work in a small, all female team with a very nurturing vibe. I love that my clients are sophisticated businesses. I like being financially secure and being able to enjoy amazing experiences. I like that as a lawyer you can (although I appreciate many don’t) stick at one firm for your whole career). I like constantly learning. I like that (with a few notable exceptions lol) most of the people I work with are smart and (with a few more exceptions) relatively egoless.

In-house at a software company. I like the flexibility - most of the company is remote across different time zones, so there’s a lot of autonomy. I got up this morning and knocked out work at 5 am so I’d have time to sign off around lunchtime and go for a hike. I get that’s not inherently about the work per se, but I firmly believe most work sucks. If it was fun they wouldn’t have to pay us. Find the place where the work sucks the least, and gives you the most time/flexibility/money to go actually enjoy the fun non-work parts of life.

In the startup space, I like helping companies take their business ideas to fruition in the legal space through formation, financing, etc. In the finance space I like the intellectual challenge of thinking through the interests of multiple stakeholders and satisfying their needs in a way that maximizes my client's preferences. Overall I like adding value by spotting issues no one had spotted before and drafting language carefully to resolve such issues. I also genuinely like 90% of my coworkers

I just love finding solutions to problems and the pay of course. Besides, I love the part that I have so much knowledge about the law for my protection and my family's as well.

I get to work with intelligent, driven people every day who I’m able to learn from - both internal (other bankers) and external (consultants, lawyers, industry experts).
My clients tend to be entrepreneurs/family business owners and it’s fascinating learning their stories and connecting with them.

I really like getting to think through complex issues, but the days I find the job most rewarding is when I can tell my work has really provided value to the client (above just performing a task that they’ve requested). This week I have been working with a client on trying to negotiate with a vendor that is trying to triple their annual service fees. They originally used a different law firm that didn’t give them an answer they could work with. I reviewed the contract, found several provisions that worked really well in our favor, and gave them to the client to take to the vendor. What I found would save them millions of dollars a year and the client was really happy with my work. It felt good to be able to provide real value and know that I was able to find a solution to a problem.

like

I enjoy the work life balance, working with a team of folks that are honest and collaborate, the financial security, and I enjoy when we’re able to find a solution to difficult issues (that but is often elusive).

like

I find it very gratifying that my internal clients, who work for a large multinational corporation in a complex, high risk industry, trust me enough to solicit and follow my advice on substantial legal and strategic issues. For me, it’s more about being the wise counselor than holding a fancy title.

I enjoy working with some (but clearly far from all) of my clients and being able to pick and choose what cases I want to take. My partner has more of a threshold law approach and I hate having to take those cases he originates because they are usually crappy and demanding.

I love my work-life balance and the flexibility I have while making the money that I am.

I have an asset purchase of a retail store transaction. Seller is keeping the second location. Seller is licensing the name from the buyer. The licensing agreement is supposed to contain provisions so that the seller cannot offer promotions or discounts that the buyer does not also offer (i.e., seller cannot undercut buyer's pricing). I know very little about antitrust. Can anyone give me some suggestions how to enforceably draft this agreement, or is this arrangement impossible?
