I would take the remote MCOL with $300k+. Life is on auto pilot. Focus on your family, relationships, hobbies, and retire early. Have everything you ever need.
Unless you’re the type to want the mansion in the Hamptons, then obvi you’ll need to make moves. But, think about what you want. Not what people tell you to want.
Yes that’s the counter point retire early live mcol life. There are things you can only get if you make it in hcol I feel bad leaving opportunity on the table.
Thank you for sharing your question with this community. Honestly you are in your 20's NOW is the time in your life to make calculated risks. You could be like me and work for an organization for 22yrs and get let go. If you have an opportunity like this, TAKE IT! If it flops or you try it and you don't like it, you are still young enough to start over #NOREGERTS
God Bless!!
Not really, new management (very much American) came in and decided I didn't know how to do my job after 22yrs. So there is that,..
Any feedback/ insight on TSMC work culture/ benefits/ salary?
I would go with A16z, it’s a great opportunity if the deal is written out to your advantage. Look at the long term.
Go for the A16Z, any of us would be happy to take your place at Google ;)
Follow your passion, not the money. Unless money is your passion. :-)
This is a question for your family and loved ones...not a bunch of randos on the Net..
My opinion....take a chance, especially if your single.
Set a timeframe or duration for when things will turn or progress and bail out if needed..
has anyone successful gotten a job here?
Please what are the necessary requirements, because I’ve been applying for ages now but no positive feedback.
Long as I potentially get hired, go with the startup.
Dude, you’re in 20s. This is the age to try new challenges and not think about comfort zones.
I’d strongly advocate for taking on new challenges. You can always find better opportunities given your skills and experience If things don’t workout. At least, you won’t have a regret when you look back in your 60s.
Go for it .
Hahaha
I think that Life itself is an adventure.
Take the Risk, Reap it's Reward!
Man i'd just continue saving at Google and then retire early if I were u
I would absolutely go with the start up. You're young and you'll get another google type job in the future if the startup doesn't work. Please go for it
Goooo!!!! You only live once. If anything just go to learn
Great power comes with Great responsibility. more task and less time for yourself for sure
Does that mean you would be going back to an industry or product line that you left previously to join Google?
It is unrealistic to expect more details about the opportunity here.
I would recommend revisiting your values deeper and coming to a sound decision with no regrets later.
Risk is not for everybody. But if there is time on life when to risk, that is always "now".
Not everyone has a mindset to be co-founder in startup. Most of the engineers I rank above me don't have that risk gene.
Plus it's in a different country where you will not a support network.
I think it's risky and I've done it. Would I do it again ? Yes. Would anyone else I know do it ? No.
Honestly my advice for the $0 you've paid for it would be - if you have to ask, it's not for you - yet.
But on the other hand - no regrets.
Don't be a fool. Take the opportunity. You have more than enough cash behind you as it is. You can take a small hit for long term gain, and always bounce back after if needed
A16z success rate is lower than 20%. Make sure you have plenty in the bank in case it doesn't make it.
if you don’t have a family, go startup. the money you have is nice but mcol hometown sounds like you need to get out more
