Should I put my notice in once I have an offer in hand or once I’ve signed and accepted?

Between those two options, once you’ve signed and accepted. However if the new company does a background check, the correct answer is after the background check has cleared.

like

Second that.

like

Always after the background check. They could change their mind or rescind the offer. While you are understandably excited, make sure all ducks are in a row before you give notice. In addition, tell the new job you can start in 3 weeks after the background check comes back clean. Give the current job 2 weeks. Have 1 week between the two for yourself.

like

Except how many companies that do drug test will often require you to take it within a week of your start date. You can’t really find a way out of that.

like

Not until (1) it has been signed and accepted by you; (2) yoy have confirmation from the employer ir receuiter that the background check has been completed; and formal final offer letter aigndd by you.

like

Second that

Do it after working at the new place for a couple weeks. That way you can get another paycheck or two at the old spot.

Why? Nothing wrong with working two jobs

Dumb questions but genuinely curious:

1) Let’s say you’re a recent undergrad candidate with no internships on your resume. What’s the deciding factor that you’re qualified for Advisory vs Tax vs Audit? Is it school, gpa, etc.?

2) Why can’t you switch from Tax to another SL without having to pull strings? I understand that there’s a difference in tax vs book experience but why does the Accounting field gatekeep other SLs? It’s not like we’re incapable of learning other areas.

Estimated tax payment question:
I converted $30k of rollover 401k into a Roth IRA and have $26k of realized ST Capital Gains this year (Roth conversion in end of Q1 and most capital gains in Q2).
My total federal withholding tax last year was approximately $12k and this year I will have 40% more in reported income on my employer W2 and anticipate higher that $12k federal withholding for my new job. Given this, what is the best way to go about making est. tax payments for the income (continued.)

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?
