Ever notice the “please drink responsibly” and constant “if you think you have a problem with gambling call this number”? It’s most likely to protect them from class action suits. No one is prescribed alcohol or gambling. It’s free will.
My problem with alcohol and my being an alcoholic is 100% my responsibility to work on and address. Many people are capable of using and enjoying the product with no consequences. I cant deflect or project outwardly to external sources for culpability related to my disease, it has to be on me.
I can see the logic. Ppl want to sue gun manufacturers when their product is used to kill someone. Why not the same in drunk driving crashes etc? Note I'm not saying I think this should happen, just that I can see the logical consistency.
Bars and restaurants have been sued plenty for drunk driving crashes. To me that makes far more sense than suing brewers or distilleries.
I don't like vicarious liability and how lawsuits wind up restricting what can be made. You bought a gasoline can lately? They're practically unusable these days because of all the "safety" stuff on them now. All because some morons poured gas on a fire and then sued.
My kids have never been on a diving board. I don't even know where to find one in a recreational pool anymore because people get hurt and then sue.
Lots of things like that where products that were great are no longer available to everyone because a couple of people couldnt use them appropriately.
