Don’t speculate an oncoming recession. People have been saying there’s a recession coming since 2012, literally 100s of books about 2016, don’t even get me started on number of people have been telling me about auto loan/student loan bubble that’s still now where close. Even if these hit today, you won’t see job repercussions till another 8-12 months. I’d say stop worrying so much about what’s not out there.
I got hired in 08...months later the company instituted a hiring freeze, but thankfully I didn’t see any fall-out and my first job out of school was secure. But I had friends who struggled out of the gate when we graduated.
My thoughts exactly! Especially as someone who just entered in the workforce without much savings...I have way too much to risk if I’m out of a job
Consulting usually gets hit hard, so not the best place to be if it is a recession
I’d think M&A would be busy due to divestitures in a recession, that may also be an opportunity for companies to find low cost deals
If you’re looking for “recession proof” consulting with a quasi-industry feel.... how about ZS?
We’ve grown 10%+ every. Single. Year. Since inception (including during major recessions). And we don’t travel much.
Im assuming new employees are one of the first to go?
Yeah it would be anyone benched for some time, low performing leaders, and new hires. I would also hazard a guess that older people in technology driven firms would be at risk too, like A1 said. They are expensive but don’t know new technology as well as the younger crowd, or don’t learn it as quickly
You're in the wrong business if you know for a fact that a recession is coming.
