I’m an Analyst, and I was looking at opportunities at Microsoft as a Business Program Manager. It says it wants you to have 5+ years of experience, but someone I went to college with got that position straight out of undergrad less than two years ago. How true are the requirements at Microsoft?

I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Love Tech - Don’t do MBA. Instead get certified in various tech and build your skills
Don’t have much love for tech but interested in business know-how: MBA is the way to go. Will open options for you to understand core business and how it works

First of all, try to understand value of an MBA in the longer term. High time people need to clear the misconception that life after MBA is all rosy and you'll be rich the day from the day you'll receive your degree. It's a process that needs a bit of patience and luck.
The day you get your degree, you'll yourself be able to see the growth you would have had over the past 2 years.
At times, there will always be days when you'll feel you shouldn't have left the job because you'll see your friends getting hikes amd promotions while you can't sustain the same kind of lifestyle during those 2 years of college that you had previously and the pressure due education loans on head did give sleepless nights at time. Once you get placed, the tension begins to lessen. In short, an MBA journey is a crazy rollercoaster ride.
The biggest perk of an MBA will be the network you'll be getting. Use it wisely!
As someone on top rightly mentioned, Please don't do MBA for hikes and promotions. IMHO, one shall decide based on what they are aiming to become in a longer run.
Could be a dumb example, To become a project manager, PM related certification shall suffice where as MBA might complement your work if you aim to understand and run certain businesses at top level (I am not saying everyone needs an MBA for it)
Again, this is just my perspective.
