Single mid 40's 3 MM in Roth/trad IRA, 401k, brokerages, 300k cash, no debt, owns home, MCOL. Spend well below means and save 150k or so more per year. When would it make sense to just stop? All investments are index funds.

How much do you spend? How well have you bracketed the number?

Are there expenses that might crop up that aren't in the plan? Health insurance? How sure are you that you will not want to marry?

Do you have a sense of what you would do with your time if you retired?

Do you have a sense of what, if anything, you might do with extra spending that would make you happier?

like

So you can think about what extra spending you could do on travel and connections if you had more money, and whether it would be worth extra time working.

In response to OP reproducing: furkids bring all the love and joy WITHOUT the talking back or asking for money!!! Plus the way this world is going and with the overpopulation/climate crisis, I personally would never bring another human into this mess... proud kitty mama here 😻

Dogs are great but they are not remotely equal to children. And your talking point is uninformed and out of the 1970s we need kids desperately in the US

How much in retirement accts vs taxable accts? I think when you can retire depends a lot on your taxable accts. Also, if you want to retire early, you have to think about healthcare cost.

Too hard to say to a stranger on the web, better to speak to a financial advisor that can know all your personal details. Or you at least sit down with an excel spread sheet to determine what your yearly expenses are and how they'll pull at your assets once you no longer have that reliable cashflow in.

The biggest thing is we don't know what your lifestyle is like. You've got fall-backs, but they don't last forever and often take a hit is pulled from early. You've got investments, but those can be unreliable until you've cashed them. 150k per year sounds like a lot except we don't know how long that's been a thing or how much you use per year.

There's short-term and long-term goals and/or factors to consider too. Do you have expensive hobbies you'll want to maintain or spend more time on once retired? Want to build a workshop or extend a building or something? Will you need additional funds for medical costs, maybe accessibility refurbishments, old-age homes, etc. Some countries cover most of that, others call it your problem. There's a lot up in the air there.

All of that might be doable at this very moment, but the only one who'd know that is you.

Searching for a study buddy for the next 5 weeks (or more) to help me stay on track as I build up my study habits 🤓

I'm studying for the CFA and aiming for an efficient 1.5 hours on weekdays and 3 hours on weekends. Looking for frequent but quick check-ins (e.g. report updates daily or every other day).

I was once at a dinner with a second year analyst, consultant, and partner, and the analyst said he planned on retiring by 30 and the partner and consultant laughed. Little did they know, the analyst owned his own home and rented all the rooms out so he payed no rent, never ate out, only grocery shopped, and very very rarely bought anything new. He saved most of his income, and was perfectly content with just his video games. That man was serious about not being stuck working forever.

Which is good brokerage account for etf and stocks. Can't use robinhood due to restrictions

Does anyone use a brokerage account instead of a checking account? Mine offers a fee free debit/atm card and free checks which I'd rarely use but starting to question whether it is worth maintaining my "big bank" checking account that requires a $1500 minimum balance.

I also have a local credit union checking/savings that I'd use if I need any services or to deposit cash and a HYSA that gets my paycheck, is used for mortgage and credit card payments, and to transfer to checking or investments.

Has anyone seen data on how certain ETFs perform relative to market cycles and to each other? Does that indicate one should own a mixed basket of ETFs or just one or two broad index ETFs?

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?
