Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Yea, not sure I’d even give a 2 week notice. Sounds like they are going down. Take the new job and don’t look back.
Congratulations on the offer . It sounds like you have answered your own question. If your current organisation has financial issues and is firing upper management, this sounds like a red flag. If they have been massively underpaying you it’s unlikely they will pay a 22k increase mainly because up until now they haven’t needed to do your job would need to to be absolutely critical for the company to function. Take the new role and move on.
Yep. You don’t owe your current employer the chance to make a counter offer. Best of luck in your new job!
If they are laying off your whole department, why would you even question leaving?
So I didn't even try to see if they would match. After I put my 2 weeks in all they did was offer me to have less workload but wouldn't agree to put it in writing. Towards the end of my first week of my 2 weeks, management started to get really shitty with me, so I reached out to my new job and started this past Monday. It is so much better so far, and I truly do like it compared to the other place I was at.
Congrats !
OP it looks like the writing is already on the wall. You went out looking for another offer another role for a reason. Take the offer and get on with your life.
I would have considered trying to get the offer matched, but with that bankruptcy rumor and upper leadership being fired, I think I’d probably skip it. Go somewhere that at least seems more stable. Best case scenario, you get the match but still a lot of uncertainty.
Please, just accept the offer of employment and resign in your current job.
Congratulations.
Totally 👍 there is no point sitting on a sinking ship.
It sounds like an opportunity to actually enjoy yourself at your current position. Some bridges give off the most satisfying glow this time of year.
Why is this even a question -Then...? move on.
What’s the % increase
If you did get your current employer to match, imagine how much fun it will be to work there moving forward.
Yea, then what's the big decision...? Why wouldn't you just jump?
Why would you stay? you just have gave more than 2 reasons no to
It sounds like you already know the answer to your own question. Remember why you started your job search for a new position. Has anything changed since your search started? Congrats on the new position & the nice bump in salary.
Heard not herd, I would go and open a new door
Take the new offer and enjoy. Even if they matched your new offer at your old job, or beat It, with other issues going on that might only be good for you for the next few months. While nothing is ever guaranteed, the new one seems to have more longevity.
There are always rumors. Most companies would benefit by firing execs.
You looked for another job for a reason, 22k isn't going to change that, and the present company will view you as a risk.
If the new offer doesn't make you work in / live near some crappy office, go for it, unless it's at a toxic company like GEICO.
Run. Gracefully without burning bridges behind you, but run.
Statistics say that most people who accept a counter-offer to stay end up leaving soon anyway. There are reasons that you searched for somewhere else and applied. Leave now while you have somewhere positive to go to.
Also, and I mean this in the kindest way, work on your spelling.
I would work on my grammar & spelling skills before doing anything.
"they're/their/there" - learn the difference
"heard"
"filing"
That's not an excuse - Always check your spelling and grammar before you hit that "post" button.
Don’t walk, run!
