1-5 is the rating system for year end. 1 is the highest rating
I took 9 weeks once and was still fine with utilization. There is a culture where people take less than they can but it’s up to you and you won’t be penalized.
My current project the M tells me to take more PTO. If you are a top performer and are smart about your util, you can take plenty of PTO
I had no problem hitting my utilization target (90%) and was off for 4 weeks last year. If you're consistently staffed and bill 40-45 per week it's a non issue. Just gotta hit 1,872 hrs total. Also, ive been told directly from multiple partners that as long as you hit your target that's all that matters (i.e., 100% utilization does not give you a more favorable rating than 90% utilization)
I know people who take 5 weeks of PTO and still get a 1, so....
Why does PTO even factor into utilization? It comes out of the denominator for us.
Kind of hard to hit utilization targets and take PTO when Federal projects primarily only allow you yo bill 40hrs per week.
23 days off as an SC. Utilization target is 80%. So you can take all your vacation as long as you don't spend more than like 2-3 weeks on the bench in a year
@D1 huh? Is that in advisory? In consulting SC util is 90%...
Has nothing to do with being a top performer, it’s all about of you are busy enough and find longer duration projects. If you can find one that’s a year long you can use it all. If your projects normally last 8 weeks then your going to trade beach time for it.
Don't they adjust utilization for PTO? I.e. reduce the denominator
Yeah, I’m with A1 on this. At ACN, they exclude PTO from your utilization, so if you were chargeable all week, but took a PTO day on Friday, your chargeability is still 100%. Seems like a cruel thing to do, essentially punishing people for taking time off.
Our denominator is based on a 40 hour week but our standard pricing is based on at least 45 so if you’re staffed most of the time, it isn’t hard to make up the utilization target. That said, I hate that PTO counts against utilization for the reasons some of you list. Even though leadership verbally stresses the importance of PTO, my utilization is always in the back of my mind which I resent.
At Kp we have the same core utilization that doesn’t account for PTO training etc which is primarily what higher leadership is looking at. They have some other internal metric though as well that takes PTO and training out from the denominator. This is used to set your impact goal and determines half your bonus. End of the day at big 4 they’re just looking at core utilization and the rest is for the best places to work rankings etc
SM2, to quote someone in the news recently. I don’t get confused. I’m aware of the pros and cons of both but disagree with the way they are suggesting it is done.
It just means they are working 80 hour weeks
@C1 nope, they are working 45
@DD1 what do you mean by "still get a 1" my bad, I'm not knowledgeable on the subject. I assume it means still meet utilization?
1 = 100% i assume
@D2 oh thanks!
