Hey all- posting about some new NFTs that are just coming out for the Dream DAO. Essentially, each minted NFT and subsequent sale helps seed fund projects for a non profit for Gen Zers called Civics Unplugged. The non profit is backed by Andrew Yang, the Rock and others. Regardless of if you like the NFTs, it’s a cool project to get involved in / read more about. https://opensea.io/collection/skywalkerz

I think it’s normal and appropriate to have a more professional voice/tone when in a business setting.
So, yeah, I do. And I feel sorry for my wife.
My problem is that I do public address announcing for several local sports teams, so I have “indoor,” “outdoor,” and also “announcer”voices. The “announcer voice” often pops in when I get excited watching a sporting event on TV. During the NCAA tourney, a player was featured for whom I had announced before he was DI and I got excited when he did well. My wife turned to me and said, “You know you just did that in your announcer voice, right,” Oops. Nope. Totally slipped into the moment. When I was in the Army, I also had a distinct “command voice” and tone used when I was in charge.
That’s awesome, having an announcer voice sounds like it’s more handy than an indoor voice anyways! Such a useful work voice, right up there with auctioneers…
I think you are putting way too much thought into this. When you are presenting in a professional forum be confidence, clear, and speak at a pace people can follow. That’s it.
My business voice is professional, measured, and without any accent. My casual voice is more colloquial, fast paced, and very much highlights my new yorker roots.
When I'm doing official business, especially anything on the record or to the public that requires an authoritative tone, I'll naturally use my professional voice. Otherwise, I'm just speaking casually with most people.
my kids call my work voice "mr. dad". apparently its different than just "dad". my wife says i use the world "aggregate" a lot. Work voice just hits different.
😂😂 😂 yeah, work words come along with the territory, I use ‘touch base’ far too frequently on my calls
My family says the “work” me is so different than the “mom/wife” or “friend” me. I think everyone has an “Innie” and an “Outie”.
I would’ve been fired a long time ago if I ever brought my “friend” alter-ego to work. She’s crass, sarcastic, and not socially correct, so she’d definitely offend someone in under 5 minutes.
Severance is real. I’ve had calls with higher ups and clients and have been amazed at how crass some people can be off the bat. I don’t mind, it works for me, but I imagine there’s always people who are very off-put.
My background for meetings is totally my personality… i do use appropriate vocabulary when talking though, business speak, but I also still say howdy 😂
I always like talking to people who are able to be casual on professional calls, it’s usually disarming and allows people to be more open and productive. I don’t have that talent though 🤷♂️
My kids have called out my 'zoom face' - which I also do whenever I FaceTime with them
You're code switching. Speak to anyone who isn't white. They do this all day.
Came to say just this!!
I have to make a lot of phone calls where I pose as my wife (she's too busy to track down credit card discrepancies, for instance), so that phone voice is a little softer, slower, and polite. My kids hate when they hear me make these calls.
She's too busy to make that happen. Part of my responsibilities at work is to resolve problems on behalf of my clients at a business management accounting firm. Since the firm has all the clients' vital information, I pose as the client (male or female) and get it done. That's why I make the big bucks (I wish).
I was explaining the leave policy to an employee. The individual asked if I was mad at them because my voice changed. Nope, just in HR serious mode.
Around here we say Customer Service Voice 🤣
I absolutely have a different voice, tone, cadence, and vocabulary when working with clients (customers) and business partners than I do with colleagues and friends. A lot of people I know outside of work are shocked to hear how calm and professional I sound at work.
I think we all do.
