Sooo I quit my job at PwC awhile ago and now I got a letter saying I owe them $2k because I charged the holiday code wrongly instead of the vacation code....if I don’t pay them, can it ruin my credit?

I’m more shocked at PwC’s internal controls than anything. It would take a very unskilled programmer to write a few lines of code to validate holiday code timesheet submissions against the firm’s published holidays.

like

I had too much fun on this one. Ok real advice OP. Simply reply and tell the person those hours should have been entered as nonchargable admin hours. Done. They were under the contract to pay you regardless whether you take PTO or not, even if you were a slacker or dishonest, etc.

likesmartfunnyuplifting

^ either OP is paid a very high hourly rate or he/she took an inordinate amount of floating holidays which would mean a horrible internal controls for a large public accounting firm. They should be banned from auditing companies if they are this bad at managing their own internal controls. I am actually really embarrassed for the firm and can’t believe they were dumb enough to put this cluster f$&k of a control failure on their part on paper. Also, not hard to write a program that makes sure you have a floating holidays to record against never kind ~ 40 floating holidays assuming OP makes $50 an hour. PWC first the Oscars and now this. What a joke!!!!

likefunny

@pwc2.. OP was hitting the holiday code instead of taking PTO which presumably inflated his/her PTO balance upon separation.

like

^I agree with above. Like wth, this info was definitely available at their departure.

I wish there were mods who could pin this post so everyone who comes asking if firms will try to clawback what they are owed. 😂

Dont pay that. Pretend u never saw it

likehelpfulfunny

Wow are you serious?!?!

like

So did you know you did that two years ago or did you just realize when you got this letter? I’m also confused about why you have to pay the firm for that... we get paid for holidays and vacation so I don’t see how it’s money out of their pocket...

Unless you wound up still taking vacation later and therefore went into the negatives

like

Tear the letter up, let them sue you....they won't

likefunny

It's worth negotiating. See if you can come to an agreement for less or a payment plan. You definitely risk them sending to collections otherwise.

like

No they already gave me my last paycheck, I resigned in like July

likefunny

😱😱😱

I would suppose so if they send it to a collections agency.

like

Pay back then LOL

like

@kpmg1 ohhhh that makes sense. I completely forgot that they pay out vacation when you leave

like

Yes it can if they decide to take it to collections for not paying up after a while.

You can roll the dice and hope they forget bout it but highly doubtful

like

How far back did you do that? Like, just before you left the firm or did they go back and audit your past year time sheet submissions?

like

They absolutely do not have to sue to ruin OPs life. Collection agencies are ruthless and you better believe they will exhaust every method to get you to pay; it is literally their business.

like

@KMPG 1 - although you are likely right regarding the programming, we do have floating holidays that can be used anytime as well as if you work a regular holiday you’re allowed to charge those 8 hours at any other time you want. So it’s not *quite* that easy

like

Yea I don’t understand why that’s a problem. We’re given a specific amount of holiday time each year that we can take. Sometimes you work during the holiday and we take the time off later on and charge it then. I thought that was the norm
