Soooo tired of this working every weekend shit. Started applying places with 40 hour weeks. Got an offer. Question: what kind of compensation/title would be worth quitting as a staff 2?

It's short sighted. You'll get stuck in a staff accountant position somewhere with 10 other staff accountants. You'll likely never see the same earning potential as someone who's been promoted to senior or higher.

By all means if you want to leave then leave. Do what's best for your own life. You asked for our opinions and we are giving them to you. Sorry if it's not what you expected. I don't think you're going to find any people in here that will tell you your career trajectory will be as good if you leave as a staff vs as a senior/manager. It's just not true. That doesn't mean there aren't people who leave as staff that aren't successful, it just means in general people who leave at senior/manager tend to be more successful and have better long term opportunities than those that leave as staff.

It will just limit your earning potential. Hang on until senior and the opportunities will be better.

Update: accepting the job today. New salary will be 90k. Can't wait to never do busy season again!

Best part of leaving is going home at decent hours during Jan - March and getting your weekends/life back. Enjoy!

Why not?

So it would be worth it then if you left as a staff 2 for a senior or manager position?

Or use it on your resume to move on to a bigger company with manager under your belt for a few years?

And a few years of higher pay and 40 hour weeks, mind you

Whoops wrong thread.

Any

^Which are what?

^Nobody is saying absolutes. There's always these one off cases. But yes, generally speaking all of those are true. Maybe you're the one in a million person that goes against the odds, it does happen.

Supervising Senior 1, good answer. Same question, but leaving as Manager 1?

People who stay in public to the senior/manager position tend to have more successful careers and better opportunities than those that don't. There's plenty of data on this. Sorry if that isn't the answer you're looking for, but I don't think you're going to find many people who think leaving as a staff has the same career trajectory as leaving as a senior/manager.

IMO 5-7 years is the sweet spot to leave. Manager 1 is a fantastic time to leave PA. Tons of opportunities available in the market at that level. For some context, I left PA after 6 busy seasons. Positions in the market were all in the $120k+ total comp range and that's for 40 hour weeks. Positions requiring longer hours were in the $140k+ range. Far more than what managers in public are making.

Check out what the managers at your clients are making. You'd be surprised.

I meant answer the original question as if you are leaving as manager...what would you want for compensation and title? I'm just curious. You said 100k for staff so I just changed the question a little

So wait, you said you already left PA? And you're a senior 1?

And you're making 120k?

^Yes to leaving PA, no to being a senior 1. The "1" means im the first person with that title to post on this thread.

Staff 2 90k? What city? Seattle or NYC?

Hello all, I’m planning for a career switch. As I’m currently in Finance sector and planning to quit my job and to start my career in IT Hardware companies like: HP, Dell and Lenovo etc.. Before taking this jump I want to know how is the career growth in IT Hardware, how is the promotion structure in such companies. I personally don’t like my present job as it doesn’t relate any part of my interest.

If you make it to senior manager at big four can you leave and become partner or director at mid size firm? Is this hard to do? I know there is a lot of politics at big four and have no interest staying in a senior manager role for 6-8 years and risk a chance of still not becoming partner. Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.
