If you're not someone's best buddy (such as your regional OMP), you can forget about becoming a partner. It's essentially "who you know" in their ballgame
I have seen that start to happen... do you have any comments on those who never become partner? Are they forced out?
If you're not a significant developer of new business, they will tend to give you a few years to gauge your production, then let you go. It sucks and I've seen this happen to some really good practitioners, but that's their business model - increase the bottom line or you're out the door.
A lot of directors, dont see many forced out
@BDO OP There's the obvious politics as previously mentioned but it also depends what office. BDO Miami has not promoted a partner in over 12 years. They have seen countless managers/senior managers come and go because of the recruiting lure of being told they would have that opportunity. Only time they promote a partner is when on leaves --- so they are expecting the RMP to retire soon. If you do not sell and do not become one of them (working 70 hours a week) then there is less of a chance it happens. People at the manager/senior manager level last an average of two to three years. Once I got my promotion to manager I jumped ship. Seen way too many good people walk through the never ending revolving door of that office.
Thanks for the responses all. I'm going into my third year of manager and was talked about becoming a senior manager. I see my office in the central region going poorly and looking at long term paths and options
