As someone who has a literal stack of cards the above is BS. Opening three cards in a short amount of time could have a small negligible hit but assuming you pay them off your debt to credit ratio will be getting better thus increasing your score. Go ahead and apply for the SPG card as the SPG card will likely go away when they merge with Marriott. I have learned to "churn" cards just for the sign up bonuses which has netted me quite a nice stash of points. If you want to learn the game then check out blogs http://viewfromthewing.boardingarea.com and http://thepointsguy.com
I'd also suggest Reddit.com/r/churning

Dunno what SPG is, but if it's a ccard it depends on how many open accounts you already have. Could hurt your credit if you have a few already (more than 3).
The highest bonus I've seen is 30k points. Get it if you think the extra point per dollar you get by having the card will add up to more than 5k points between now and when the next 30k bonus is (it was around October last year, but who knows when they'll do it again).
In March of this year the sign up bonus was 35k... That was the time to capitalize!
I have it - great card, especially if you can use the card for client expenses and get reimbursed.
@pwc2 can you use it for client expenses and get reimbursed?
Was able to do so at my previous firm for all client related expenses, even flight/hotel which really racked up pts especially at SPG properties -- I've had to use it several times for client travel at pwc but my director told me to avoid it if possible
New to the game, but I saw that was a factor on my last credit report. ...So you all say that the increase in credit line outweighs the number of recently opened accounts ?
