Lol. That's like asking what's a good GPA to have as a freshman in college. AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE
$18K per year. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to swing it.
How'd your post-NBA career go?
@sc1 with match? Or self contribution? Seems high for a younger consultant.
I have about $13k from 1 year of mine plus match and pet of a year of just mine (hasn't matched yet)
I put in 10k a year when I was younger. Wish I would have maxed it. Feel behind but have maxed every year since bschool. I worked for 4.5 years pre NBA
It varies. Save as much as you can, and adjust your spending habits around it. Some people max their 401k contributions when they begin their jobs. It depends on your situation and the spending habits you have.
What's a good contribution percentage as a 1st/2nd year?
OP I just posted a very similar thread on this. I was at 15%, but I'm going to reduce down to firm match and pay off my student loans, then bump it back to 15%. (6% 401k 9% Roth)
@IBM1 True - so I'll ask what others tend to average on here for younger consultants?
@PWC1 - any way to link your thread?
25% pre-tax.
OP it was from this morning so maybe scroll? Sorry idk how to link, but it's worth it a lot of ppl gave good advice.
I only do 7% but I max out a Roth IRA, contribute 5% to a 529 and am self funding a wedding this year with no debt or parent contributions
Contribute the max your firm will match then I would contribute as much as possible to a Roth and other trading accounts. Take some calculated investment risks
