40% is enormous. Enough to leave a good boss.
And it sends a message to the company that they need to take care of good talent.
Take it without hesitation. You can feel badly about it, but even if you get promoted there I doubt it would be 40%
Thank you SVP I needed to hear that!!
Take the job. If they valued you as such they’d have made a promotion happen even (especially) in your absence.
Yeah i wasn’t sure if they could? I extended my company paid mat leave w my PTO and was technically on PTO at that point when this happened(1 wk before i came back). It felt like “oh well you’re not here? Then you don’t get a seat at the table” but im not sure how that works
Had an employee I loved. Fought for her every day. Got her a counter then she left 3 months later anyway. Never held it against her.
Another gig I had the offer for 2x my current salary. Felt guilty leaving. My boss told me they'd miss me like crazy but I'd be crazy not to go. I left.
I'm still on great terms with both of these people. Do what is in your best interest.
Thank you! I needed to hear this. Really love the people i work with so that makes it hard. Im hoping that removing the work boundary would now allow me to stay in touch and be better friends with everyone
Jump ship. If the opportunity is good for you and your growth, you should take it. You should feel appreciated in a thankless industry.
Do not feel guilty about it. You are absolutely not crazy. Do not do it out of spite either. You could take your offer to your boss out of courtesy but feel confident about your decision.
To me, that alone is a bigger incentive than a raise. Tells you a lot about the people you’d be working with.
Even in hellish accounts. Working with Good people makes all the difference in the world.
Can you take the offer to your boss to see if they can match it?
I really thought id go that route but i recently found out that it’s really hard for them to do counter offers bc of the level of approvals it needs so I don’t think they will. Plus the difference is so high I don’t think they could match. There are other benefits too like higher 401k match and unlimited PTO that my company (a holding company) could never meet
