Congratulations! Our HC practice is terrific. Good luck with your decision.
🤷♀️
Our HLS team is fantastic. I’m a Principal in it, and happy to chat.
Our focus is strategy work, primarily with Payers and Providers. We’ve been growing like gang busters for a decade, and no signs of slowing down.
Depends on a lot of things. Compensation? Perspective of staying only in Healthcare? Location is the same?
I'd say, everything else being equal, S& has a more consolidated practice, while OW has a more fast-growing one (HLS in America's grew 60% last quarter in revenue, and it surpassed 2019 in revenue by Q2 this year)
^and I’m mad
Definitely S&
I agree with S1. Our Healthcare team is a shining star. Fast promos and good bonuses
I think our healthcare practice is one of the best if not the best across other practices in the firm. Fast promotions, good WLB and great culture
Less than 55 hours of work each week, weekends mostly free, opportunities to plan dinners during the week
Both good practices and good firms. Many OW HLS partners are former Booz/Strategy& also.
Strategy& has a lot more teaming and broader capability set. Pursuits are more stable / predictable given PwC footprint. The practice is also larger which means it is easier to get lost amongst the crowd. OW is more “eat what you kill” model at the top which shades slightly more to commercial focus at all levels vs teaming/capability focus.
If you’re in it for the long run recognize they are quite different partnership cultures.
My priority is mostly staying in HC and learning as much as possible. Also growth opportunities at the firm.
How would people comment on growth opportunities there? One thing I like about OW is the meritocracy with promos and comp. Not sure how it is at S&
When you’re ready you’re promoted. We’ve never been busier and haven’t had a bench in 2 years. Particularly at M/SM levels we need way more people.
Also we have two promotion windows per year, so if you just miss at one you have another bite at the apple in six months.
I was promoted 3x in a two year period.
Great people at both firms — it’s going to come down to the teams you work with in either case.
Go for OW
Reason?
Coach
When you say “healthcare”, I’m assuming you don’t and won’t ever care about Life Sciences? Because if you do, then OW doesn’t have that practice.
Strategy& healthcare is NY, Chicago and very west coast based. How much would it matter to you if the most senior leaders are west coast?
Mentor
You’re fine either way then. When you say healthcare, note that our healthcare strategy is split into 2 areas. Should figure out which one you’re joining
What did you finally decide op? Can’t go wrong either way
Welcome to OW!
Curious too. How’s project mix / types different?
What’s the comp difference between the two?
Minimal
Very minimal <10k which is why I’m not too preoccupied with comp as the driver. Very much more concerned w the type of work, exposure to both provider/payer, and upward mobility. Also culture is a big factor as well!
Ask the recruiter to put you in touch with people from the practice.
Any comp difference?
Very minor. IMO negligible
Strategy&
Why?
