Just transferred to Mongolia. Had leadership support from the MD in Ulaanbaatar. Deloitte sponsored like my work visa and my plane tickets. They even got me a sweet backpack.
Trying to do the same thing at Accenture. Spoke to a few people who made a similar move and found 3 main ways they transferred: 1) be a star performer and have an MD in the US vouch for you with an MD they know from London. 2) have a skill that's required in London. 3) be on an international project long enough to make transferring a possibility
Isn't London a completely seperate partnership? The pay and brand are much less there too.
Depends on your skill set and if the market needs it. If your a consultant or below you need a special skill. If your top of your game and the market needs you quick ish expect a year to six months.
A firm is likely to be more willing to transfer staff to an emerging market than an established one - the UK should, frankly, be able to find its own talent. It is a big expense to relocate people. But if you're willing to go to Asia, say, then the cost of sending you will be seen as a much better investment because you'll bring much needed talent, global experience and credibility that the emerging markets need. I had to transfer to Oz - they wouldn't pay for a secondment. Took about 9 months from first convo to start date. Very frustrating process
Moved from Benelux to US as Consultant. Partners needed on both sides that actively support. All in all process took 1.5 years. No visa needed - had K1. Important in support you'd need is whether you're trying Global Mobility (like 1 or 2 years) or whether you're going permanently.
