Take the pay jump from $110k remote to $140k in office? Would be a 20 min ride each way, just wondering if 30k is worth leaving remote work

Take the job! Stick it out for a year or so and then find another remote gig that will pay you more than $140k.

likefunny

Bad advice. Remote job is impossible to find these days... Speaking from my own experience being remote forced to be in office

like

It really depends on your personal situation, but I'd probably take the $140k in office role😊A Cruise Ship industry is also currently in need of 14 remote workers. They pay upto $7k per 2 weeks, I believe they're more in search of WFH Merchant staffs, it's about keeping records of Food&Beverage sales. Is anyone in for it?

Not to me

$30k is say $20k after tax. Then factor in commuting costs and lunch money; you’ll still come out ahead dollar wise. It then comes down to the time savings by being remote. But $140k becomes your new base when you’re thinking about the next move.

like

Depends on what matters to you the most. Very few people get to have it all. 20 minutes is nothing (in Houston). The $140k will now become your compensation floor for your career. Agree with others that fully remote is nearly impossible to find. If you think you have growth potential where you’re at then I would suggest be content and be patient. Comp will come, growth will come.

like

Is it hybrid or everyday? I personally think being fully remote in audit is damaging to your career. Nobody that is remote at our firm is making partner

like

I personally wouldn’t do it but that’s because i like the flexibility of remote work.

like

For 20 min ride, I would take it. If it’s 2 hour ride, then no 😂

like

If the role offers career progression or further growth/experience I’d think it’s worth it. Is it also a for sure thing that your current role stays 100% remote? 40 min round trip commute isn’t bad at all unless you really just hate being in office

like

Is it every day in office? Personally depending on bonus that seems worth it

How many days in office? That would be a deciding factor for me

20 min commute is great. I'd take it.

Not enough info.

If 2 identical jobs then yes take the higher pay to increase your base.

But no jobs are identical. Responsibilities? Hours? Vacation? 401k match? Other benefits issues? Culture?

I could go on but you get the idea.

How many days per week? I go into the office two days per week and it's about a 20 minute drive.

The number of days per week would be the deciding factor for me. If it's 1-2 days per week, or month, then I will probably take it. If it's everyday with little or no chance of working remote for months or years, then I might not take it.

The role with higher pay is a controller role and is in office 5 day, the lower paying role is fully remote in public audit. 401k match is the same. Think I'll take it just for the industry experience.

yes for 20 min commute. no brainer

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

WFH, is what they have mentioned in offer letter.

it feels like every survey about working from home is (poorly) designed to answer the useless question "would you rather work from home or from the office." I submit that the set of people who prefers to have only one of those two options, always and forever, is the null set. which means it DOES NOT MATTER because the correct answer is always going to be "make both possible." you're welcome, HR departments everywhere.
