👏 I’m a lawyer who’s spent all of my career at CPA firms. Specialized in tax law in law school. Do not have my CPA. Would say that if you want to work for an accounting firm, cpa is cheaper way to do it (idk that the higher pay for having a JD/LLM justifies how expensive law school is). if you want to do tax law at a law firm, then yes to law school. But note that at a law firm, as a tax lawyer, you’re either likely going to be doing contracts or controversy type work vs. at accounting firms, it would be more consulting and or compliance type of work. Happy to answer any other questions you may have!
Accounting undergrad and jd/llm. I have minor time in small law firms, however, mostly accounting firms. I absolutely feel my education helped compared to the peers at my level. Pay is more upfront but levels out over time, not sure it’s enough to cover the additional time in school. I do deal work and absolutely love it. However, there are some attorneys that get stuck in compliance roles.
