Can we please stop exploiting children harmed by gun violence for awards
Rising Star
I’d rather this was the shock that gets people talking than an actual school shooting.
These type of training experiences actually exist for police and first responders.
Right now our children do school shooting drills. And are targets.
I don’t think doing nothing and saying nothing is a solution just because we may feel this is unpleasant.
Our current reality is unpleasant.
This site points directly to the Senators and Representatives in the pocket of gun manufacturers.
Is it a good idea? Yes.
Was it executed well? Pretty much.
Will it win awards? Probably.
But it’s also just extremely exploitative trauma-porn that’s meant to “educate” people about mass shootings, particularly in schools. At this point, we know about them all too well. We know the horror & disgust, we don’t really need a game to illustrate that. It’s really just time for socio-political change (if that ever happens bc of all the money in government.)
I checked out the website. I get what they’re trying to do. But its branded as a slasher horror film. They want it to be provocative and violent. I have a problem with them using the aesthetic of mass murder as clickbait. I doubt a simulation game is going to motivate people more than real life footage in the news. Could appeal to a younger demo or just gamers in general but it still feels icky.
I really hope they consulted psychologist on this. Seems triggering for many different audiences. I worry about the unintended consequences.
I don’t have much faith this will really move the needle, but its a fantastic idea and the most immersive way to put someone in the situation without actually putting them in it.
What’s up with Chicago agencies and being obsessed with award bait
Rising Star
all agencies are obsessed with award bait, Chicago just loves the violently killed children angle
Just played through the whole game. Very powerful. It gives voters a fresh way to really get what’s at stake with these bills needing approval. Sure, it’s not a light topic, but is it any worse than seeing our kids go through security drills at school?
me neither
For anyone upset by this, did you know our kids are doing active shooter drills at the age of 4??How the f* is that any worse than this??
Chief
Yeah, my kid is 4. I think gamifying school shootings for a grab at awards is disgusting.
I hate this
Man, what a whiff.
