How does pwc’s wealth builder plan work ?
Need some advice here. I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Microsoft Google Adobe PwC EY Citi Barclays JPMorgan Chase
Harman connected services vs CGI.
Please help

Older guy here - I feel you're being discerning, cautious, and observant. Seen it over and over again through the years. It's hard not to be a bit cynical when "we're like a family" ranks right up there with these gems:
"Work hard, play hard": If work-life balance exists at all beyond just the name, it's skewed heavily to the work side.
"You'll wear many hats": Get ready for lots of collateral out-of-scope tasks, with no extra pay for doing them.
"Work well under pressure" or "fast-paced environment": Understaffed and/or incompetent staff. Reactive instead of proactive...everything is a crisis and needs to be done yesterday. Managers often have little to no clue what's going on.
Oh, and if the terms "rock star", "wizard", "ninja", or something down those lines are in the description, they want a single person getting paid a single (often junior) salary to do the work of an entire team or department.
Responding to the many hats or wizard, I love to learn on the job but many places have you doing too much. Learn until you burn apparently.
They only say they’re like a family because they want to see you on the holidays

I agree lol I want to be a ghost in the machine not an integral part of the family business. Some of the worst working situations I've seen are people working for a small business
I think that is up to hiring manager to make the workplace rewarding. A top down environment is an unwavering place to work, employees have little input. While aanger who leads equally ask8ng others for input and taking that information and incorporating it to the facility plan encourages employees. There are times to top down, when safety and getting off track makes it necessary.
I’ve noticed that most of these goofy phrases have gone out of fashion. Most job descriptions I see are pretty straight up to the point. Nobody believes anyone’s “excited” to work for your company anymore. That’s not cynical…it’s always been the truth. Sure, it’s nice to work for a company that feeds your purpose, aligns with your skills and career goals, and provides good work/life balance (whatever that means). But it’s not “exciting” and I already have a family, thank you.
The only companies still using these phrases are clueless startups that just secured enough series A funding to bumble along for 6 months until they lay everyone off. Ok…maybe THAT’S cynical 😆
There is definitely still some expectation about being “excited” coming through in every hiring process. The most pointless question ever: “So why do you want to work for us?”. We know we can’t just say the truth: because we need a job, are qualified for this job, and this job is suitable. We have to act like we were going around giving a damn about their random concrete company before the interview, and will give a damn about it after the interview if we don’t get hired. And then we have to do it again for 50 other companies over the following weeks. Like all we do in our spare time is look up companies online and we just love concrete and flooring and banking and whatever the fuck it is today that we are interviewing for.
