Hi - I have donations given to Team Everest for Nov 2021 with receipt. But IBM AskHR says no support for donations tax exemption on Form 16. Thus, the donation isn't deducted on my Form 16. Can I now update the donation directly on E-filing.gov u/s 80G for exemption or will that cause an issue ? IBM

Comparison is the thief of joy.
My wife and I hit our FIRE number a little over a year ago. Based on commonly found calculations, our FIRE number was $1.8Million which covers our basic expenses plus about $10k annually for a bit of travel.
Our jobs aren't very stressful, so we're still working and investing with the goal of having a $30-$40k annual travel budget which will enable longer international vacations.
Agreed! This whole $10m theme is wild. Only 3% of Americans retire with $1m in their retirement accounts. Who is this group targeting? We recently hit our goal at $2.3m combined and we are 61 & 65. We live in the high-tax northeast with $900/month tax n real estate tax alone. This will very comfortably fund our retirement which includes travel. We will also collect $60k annually from social security at 67. Both still working. We are way ahead of most of our peers. $10m is extravagant.
But you know how these communities get. People take it too far and get weirdly rude and competitive about their goals. Everyone is a billionare online and love to LARP unrealistically. Sure, $10M will be great, but it's not achievable for the majority and that's okay. You're right, it's not one-size-fits-all.
For us it's around $3.4M, and that will allow us both to retire with middle and highschool aged children, when we are 45 and 48.
By that time our house will be paid off, the kids' 529 plans will be fully funded, and my spouse will also receive a deferred pension of ~$40k when she hits retirement age.

Yeah, a lot of people are being silly.
Is there a $10M for FIRE thing? I think there are a number of high earning individuals in this bowl that are distorting perceptions.
Salaries have gone up for the 1% and the stock market has been on quite a run over the last few years. Plus, you can get there by making big bets on crypto or stocks like Nvidia. I bet there are a lot of people on here where $10M is a very realistic number.
Where are you getting $10m from? I’ve always seen 25x your annual expenses (including taxes), or more if you are retiring super early.
Personally my number is $6m.
