Stop moving to Denver we are full.
Hard agree. I was one of those Miami associates getting paid Cravath scale. No state taxes, no city taxes, rent/cost of living way cheaper. Definitely had better wlb than associates in other “major market” offices of my same firm.
Couldn’t agree more.

I’m one of those folks making cravath scale in a secondary city and let me tell you, it’s great.
Ha, that’s fair, and same re: a national practice. This is also the reason it was a dumb idea that firms ever had different salary bands for different cities, we’re all doing the same work.
This all makes sense unless you grew up here and your family is in the area. I think that’s probably one of the best reasons to stay in NYC - nowhere else I’d rather be and I’ve lived in a bunch of places across the country. Nothing really beats it 🤷🏽♀️
I'm currently in a secondary city with kids and making Cravath bucks, but grew up in NYC and all my family is still there. Now that kids are in the picture, I want to be closer to family but hate hate hate how much less buying power and ability to save I'd have over there--especially now, given house prices are absolutely insane and any decent home in a decent location is easily going for six figures above listing price. Making me rethink the idea of moving back "home" and also making me wish that I grew up in Iowa instead.
NYC is pretty damn sick tho.

That’s why I live in NJ!

Chicago
C1, It’s great. No other major city has all that Chicago has to offer for the same or lower cost of living. The Texas cities are the closest, but they don’t have the same actual big city feel (i.e, densely populated, not millions of people scattered in suburban-like communities with a city address).
